Last week, Drew contacted me in hopes that I would be available last night to secretly photograph his proposal to his girlfriend, Nichole. What an honor and I of course said YES without hesitation. For one, Nichole is my beautiful cousin and witnessing such an amazing moment in her life would be a memory I would forever cherish. Thursday evening, Drew and I met downtown to work out the details and timing for his big moment. All day long, I was so nervous and excited. I mean seriously, opportunities like this are once in a lifetime and Drew has chosen me to capture it all. Um… no pressure, right? Keeping this “secret” from family members was a little challenging for me. Let’s face it… I’m a girl and girls LOVE to talk. But, I gave him my word and that is something I do not take lightly. His secret was safe with me.
So, last night at 6:15pm there I lay sprawled on my stomach with camera in hand waiting for the moment to arrive. As they approached “the spot” my heart started racing and my hands were shaking. It was emotional not only for them but for me as well. I realized as I lay there witnessing such an intimate time in this couple’s life that being a photographer ROCKS! Plus, it was in that exact moment that the world stood still for these two people. I could not help but choke down the tears as I watched him hold her and then drop down to his knee. The best part, all of the bystanders started clapping and cheering for them as if they wanted them to know that their moment touched their lives too.
It was awesome and Drew ROCKED! Finally, I could come out of hiding and reveal myself. Nichole was so excited to see me and sharing this moment with her still melts me. Nichole LOVES everything about photography. She has a wonderful eye for taking pictures, frequently updates her frames and photographs inspire many aspects of her life. Drew knew this detail and wanted her to have images of this moment forever. Seriously girls… she has a keeper. Anyway, afterwards we walked downtown taking engagements photos while talking about all the details. It was a serious high point in my photography career and I can’t wait to share it all with you too.
